I Lost My Pet:

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS TO FIND YOUR MISSING PET.

  • Contact your pet’s microchip company. This information can be found in your adoption paperwork or paperwork from your veterinarian when your pet was microchipped. The microchip company can blast your pet’s information to shelters and veterinary office around the area where your pet was lost, as well as contact you if someone calls with your found pet.
  • Report your missing pet and search for a match on the pet locator websites provided on this page.
  • Create a LOST PET flyer and post/distribute around your community and local area.
  • Share a LOST PET flyer on social media platforms, including Facebook and NextDoor.
  • Check with veterinary hospitals, mail carriers, delivery people. It is not uncommon for a lost pet to wander for several miles, so spread the word and search at least seven blocks in any direction.
  • Don't Give Up! Keep looking! Remember, many well-meaning people do not know it is unlawful to keep a stray animal and will not immediately take a lost pet to an animal care center. They may keep it at their home for several weeks hoping to find the owner on their own.

I Found a Lost Pet:

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS FOR YOU TO GIVE PETS THE BEST CHANCE FOR A HAPPY REUNION WITH THEIR FAMILY.

  • Check to see if the animal is wearing an ID tag. If so, you may be able to immediately contact the owner and return the pet to its owner. If the pet is wearing ID, but you are unable to immediately contact the owner, it is advised that you still report the found pet and search for a match on the pet locator websites provided here.
  • Get the animal scanned for a microchip. If the pet is not wearing an ID tag, the best course of action is to either take it to your local animal shelter or call Torrance Animal Control to scan the animal for a microchip. If the animal is chipped, the staff will be able to immediately look up the owner’s contact information and the animal may already be reported as lost by the owner with the microchip company.
  • Although it may be tempting to keep a lost pet and try to find the owner yourself, it is absolutely essential that the animal be scanned for a microchip. Pets are stressed when they are away from the familiarity of their family and home.
  • Report the lost pet and search for a match on the pet locator websites provided on this page.
  • Create a FOUND PET flyer and post/distribute around your community and local area.
  • Share a FOUND PET flyer on social media platforms, including Facebook and NextDoor.
  • Check with veterinary hospitals, mail carriers, and delivery people. It is not uncommon for a lost pet to wander for several miles, so spread the word at least seven blocks in any direction.
  • Don't Give Up! Someone is looking for their furry companion.
