Training Division Mission Statement
The Training Division provides leadership, direction and training for fire suppression, hazardous materials, technical rescue, and specialized emergency response programs. The goal for the division is to provide training that is current and consistent with the best practices in the fire service community. We strive for excellence through competence, progression, and evolving. Strong firefighting knowledge and skills will give us the foundation to safely mitigate low-frequency, high-risk incidents. The Training Division is committed to enhancing the capabilities and skills of all members within the Torrance Fire Department as well as Area G and Region 1.
Areas of Responsibility
- Coordinates, implements and oversees Training Programs and Work Groups
- Recruit Training Tower Probationary Firefighters and manipulative examinations
- Fire Suppression Advisory Committee (FSAC)
- Fire Apparatus Driver Operator (FADO)
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Training (EVOC)
- Live Fire Training Committee
- Fire Ground Survival Work Group
- Rapid Intervention Crew Work Group
- Represent the TFD as the Department Safety Officer and provide "Green Sheet" Informational Summary Report of Serious or Near Serious Torrance Fire Department Injuries, Illnesses and Accidents
- Task Book development for all ranks
- Develop and implement an Annual Training Plan
- Digitally track all training for compliance and ISO reporting
- Maintains training files for safety personnel
- Oversight and management of Green Cell training
- Organize and implement Area G integration training
- Coordinate the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC) as Instructor of Record.
- Chair the Area G Training Officers group meetings
- Coordinate and manage all destructive training opportunities
- Coordinate training that enhances the skills and capabilities of all operational personnel
