Technical Sergeant Ted T. Tanouye was an American hero from Torrance. He exhibited such heroism during a WWII attack in Italy on July 7, 1944. On that fateful day, Technical Sergeant Tanouye led his platoon in an effort capture the crest of a strategically important hill that afforded little cover. Technical Sergeant Tanouye's extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit on him, his unit, and the United States Army. As a city that values the sacrifices of the nation's Armed Forces, a  memorial was dedicated in the City of Torrance honoring true American Hero Technical Sergeant Ted T. Tanouye.
