Jason Kendall Field at Torrance Park
Jason Daniel Kendall, a graduate of Torrance High School, is a current major league baseball player for the Kansas City Royals. Kendall, who plays catcher, began his professional baseball career with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. In addition to spending nine seasons with the Pirates, Kendall also played for the Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers.
Born in San Diego, Jason Kendall is best remembered at Torrance High for tying a national high school record with a 43-game hitting streak that began during his junior year. In the major leagues, he has more than 2,000 hits and 14-plus seasons. On and off the field, he is known as the consummate professional earning accomplishments including the 1998 Roberto Clemente Award, which is given to the player who best combines outstanding skills on the baseball field with devoted work in the community.
