Big Belly Trash Receptacles

The City of Torrance will deploy smart, solar-powered, sensor-equipped waste & recycling stations that communicate real-time status to collection crews to enable efficiencies. The City is looking to purchase up to five Big Belly Trash Receptacles by summer of 2019. These Receptacles will be placed around the Regional Transit Center.

Recycling Market Development Zone

The City is looking to implement economic incentives for recycling r waste reduction businesses as part of a statewide program. These incentives will overseen by the Economic Development Department.

Possible Future Solid Waste/Recycling Projects

  • Refuse and Recycling in Public Spaces (Solid Waste/Recycling)
    • Hire Third Party Vendor to place, service, and maintain refuse/recycling containers in public spaces.
    • Funded through advertising on Refuse/Recycling Containers
  • Establish Regional Hazardous Waste Collection Site (Solid Waste/Recycling)
    • Potential partnership with county and/or Refinery
  • Establish Residential Curbside Food Waste Collection.
  • Enhancement of Mandatory Commercial and Multifamily Recycling and Organic Recycling Programs.
  • Enhancement of Construction and Demolition Recycling Program.
