One Mile, One Charger Project

TORRANCE ELECTRIC VEHICLE - "ONE MILE, ONE CHARGER" PROJECT

Under the direction of the Mayor and City Council, the goal of the "One Mile, One Charger Project" is to facilitate the expansion of EV infrastructure throughout the City so that an EV driver is never more than one mile from a charging station within the City of Torrance.

As a result, Torrance now enjoys an impressive 99.7% coverage, ensuring that there is at least one EV charger within each mile across the city. This extensive network of charging stations has not only alleviated range anxiety among current and potential EV drivers but has also supported the City’s broader goals of promoting alternative fuels and sustainable energy sources.

Infrastructure Upgrade

Since adopting the 2008 Strategic Plan, the City of Torrance has enhanced local and regional air quality, including developing alternative fueling infrastructure. In 2014, the City Council secured grants to expand public electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. By 2015, the City had partnered with ChargePoint, Inc. to install and maintain six DC fast charging stations and fourteen Level II charging stations across six public sites. The "One Mile, One Charger" project saved over 18,143 kg of greenhouse gas emissions by charging 6,309 vehicles, replacing an estimated 214,169 internal combustion engine vehicle miles.

Under a new agreement with Blink Charging, beginning 2024, the City replaced outdated chargers, ensuring continued accessibility to essential EV charging infrastructure.

Each upgrade will take 2-3 days. If you spot one of these locations under upgrade, please use the nearest alternative for charging.
