Home Menu2023 Students and Government Day
The City of Torrance hosted the 17th annual Students and Government Day on May 9, 2023.
The City would like to congratulate the 20 students selected as this year’s Students and Government Day class.
To participate, 8th grade students from Torrance schools answered the following prompt: “In June, 2022, Torrance voters elected George K. Chen as the new Mayor. If you were elected Mayor of Torrance, what one program would you like to implement and what steps would you take to make your program successful?"
With more than 400 essays submitted, the selection committee narrowed them down to these 20 students from schools across Torrance:
- Gretchen Cox, Riviera Hall Lutheran School
- Rina Kurosawa, First Lutheran School
- Khali Abernathy, Nativity Catholic School
- Livia Brindicci, Jefferson Middle School
- Kevin Risk, St. James Catholic School
- Campbell Guszak, Calle Mayor Middle School
- Ayush Agarwal, Bert Lynn Middle School
- Brooklyn Quinn, Jefferson Middle School
- Alex Yoo, Casimir Middle School
- Sage Stroud, St. Catherine Laboure School
- Chloe Kim, First Lutheran School
- Mary Trihn, St. James Catholic School
- Kaylee Dyb, Richardson Middle School
- Zach Agorsah, St. Catherine Laboure School
- Ashwin Moreno, Madrona Middle School
- Lauren Landreaux, Magruder Middle School
- Jesse Kantisiri, Magruder Middle School
- Nikolai Quintile, Riviera Hall Middle School
- Emme Mahkorn, Magruder Middle School

The City of Torrance is proud to be home to so many creative and thoughtful young community members! We thank all the students who submitted essays, as well as their parents, teachers, principals and school personnel who help make this program possible. And thank you to the selection committee for all their efforts in support of Students and Government Day.
