Home Menu2022 Students and Government Day
The City of Torrance hosted the 16th annual Students and Government Day on April 26, 2022.
The City would like to congratulate the 16 students selected as this year’s Students and Government Day class.
To participate, 8th grade students from Torrance schools answered the following prompt: “Students can make a difference in our community. Besides keeping our parks and beaches clean or helping people experiencing homelessness, what unique program would you want to see our City sponsor that students could plan and run? Give details of how your program would work and how it would help the City of Torrance.”
With more than 300 essays submitted, the selection committee narrowed them down to these 16 students from schools across Torrance:
- Kaylee Cho, Bert Lynn Middle School
- Chelsea Lee, Jefferson Middle School
- Alvin Wajeed, Magruder Middle School
- Emma Johnson, Riviera Hall Lutheran School
- Hannah Morey, Hull Middle School
- Jeanette Berga, Casimir Middle School
- Madelyn Lee, Richardson Middle School
- Aliza Kazi, Calle Mayor Middle School
- Takuto Nagahata, Jefferson Middle School
- Celine Chang, Madrona Middle School
- Valentina Arizmendi, Magruder Middle School
- Maddie Wolfinger, Jefferson Middle School
- Jerin John, St. Catherine Laboure School
- Lydia Cilindro, St. Catherine Laboure School
- Evan Weiser, St. James Catholic School
- Noah Kim, First Lutheran School
The City of Torrance is proud to be home to so many creative and thoughtful young community members! We thank all the students who submitted essays, as well as their parents, teachers, principals and school personnel who help make this program possible. And thank you to the selection committee for all their efforts in support of Students and Government Day.
