If your vehicle has been recovered, impounded, or stored by the Torrance Police Department, a vehicle release form must first be obtained through the Records Division to present to the tow company for release.

• Vehicles can only be released to the registered owner or to someone with written authorization from the registered owner. Written authorization must be accompanied by a copy of the registered owner’s ID.
• The person picking up the vehicle must have a valid drivers license, or they must bring someone with a valid drivers license, unless they plan to have the vehicle towed from the yard.
• Vehicle Registration must be up to date, OR have a one day moving permit with proof of paid DMV fees.
• The Vehicle Release Fee of $200.00 is due at time of release.

All vehicle releases will be conducted by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling the Records Division at (310) 618-5529. Appointments will be available only during the public counter hours.

Hours of Operation:

Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Sundays and Holidays: Closed

The cost of a vehicle release, from the Torrance Police Department is $200.00, CASH ONLY.

*If you are victim of a stolen vehicle, there will be no fee charges from the Torrance Police Department for the release of your vehicle.

Additional tow fees will be charged at the tow yard for their services. The Torrance Police Department cannot negotiate fees charged by the tow company.
