Marc Danziger
Marc Danziger has been a Torrance resident for over 30 years, living in Hollywood Riviera and South Torrance. In that time he’d been an advocate for community interests including managing the impacts of the airport, development, and city fiscal policies, and served on the board of the Long Beach Opera and as a Board Member and President of Southwood Riviera Homeowners’ Association.
His three sons attended Riviera and Seaside Elementary, Richardson and Calle Mayor Middle School, and South High.
His undergraduate degree is from UC Santa Cruz, where he studied political theory, and UC Berkeley, where he received a Master in Urban Planning, specializing in Planning Theory.
He’s written over the last 20 years on the militarization of policing, the importance of community support, and in the course of his martial arts training has done force-on-force training with police departments and individual officers.
Rachael Steven
Rachael Steven lives in Torrance with her husband and four young children. Rachael has been an active member of the community, serving on the board of The UCLA Chancellor’s Society (South Bay) for 15 years, The El Camino College Foundation for 10 years, and The Torrance Education Foundation.
She received her A.A. in English from El Camino College, and her B.A. in English Literature from UCLA.
Rachael is the Director of Development at Bakers Man, a full service digital production and marketing company based in Torrance.
Estela Hill
Estela Hill was born and raised in the South Bay. Currently residing in Torrance since 2021 with her husband and two children.
Estela has worked in the public sector for over 20 years specializing in regulatory enforcement. Estela currently works as a Supervising Investigator for the State of California.
Estela is proud to be a part of the Chief's Advisory Board and loves to spend her free time attending and assisting with community events.
Elyse Imamura
Elyse Imamura (who also goes by Niki) is a born and raised South Torrance resident, now raising her own three boys (ages 4, 10, & 19) in Old Torrance with her husband Bobby who teaches and coaches at South High.
After graduating from CSULB with a Directing in Theatre BA (she never strayed too far from home, even directing a play at Torrance High School) she got into the Adult Beverage business and now sells fine wine and spirits for an import company based out of NYC.
Elyse’s parents were always involved in charity work, so was taught at a young age the importance of giving back. She was involved in Sandpipers for a short time, is now a mentor for She-Can, a non-profit supporting young women in education from post-civil war countries, and like a lot of people, in 2020 Elyse started diving into social justice causes, joined an antiracist book club that is still going strong & was featured in Vox, and realized to make change, it needs to start at home, so was thrilled to be asked to join CAB.
Don Glavich
Don Glavich has been a Torrance Unified educator and coach for 16 years. He serves many roles at Torrance High, including Social Science Department Chair and AP/Honors Coordinator. He teaches Introduction to the Administration of Justice Honors and Concepts of Criminal Law Honors. He serves on the TUSD Ethnic Studies Planning Committee and formerly served on TUSD’s Instructional Planning Committee and Learning Loss Committee.
He’s the recipient of the 2015 Torrance High Teacher of the Year Award and 2019 PTSA Outstanding Teacher Award. He’s a three-time Daily Breeze All-Area Softball Coach of the Year and the 2015 CIF-SS Championship Coach.
He served on the Torrance Teachers Association Board of Directors from 2014-2019, including a term as Vice President.
He’s a 2006 graduate of Western State University College of Law, specializing in Criminal Law Studies. His undergraduate degree is from California State University Dominguez Hills, where he studied Political Science and Communications.
Laura Lewis
Laura is a member of the State Bar of California and serves with the California Lawyers Association, Business Law Section, Business Litigation Standing Committee, as a 2022-2023 Officer. She also serves with the Multi-Cultural Bar Alliance of Southern California as a 2022-2023 Officer.
As a former Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Loyola Marymount University in the College of Business Administration, Dept. of Marketing and Business Law, Conrad N. Hilton Center for Business, Laura was honored as an Outstanding Professor Honoree by the Order of Omega.
Carole Suwa
Carole Suwa has been a Torrance resident for over 21 years and has worked in Torrance for 33 years. She raises her two daughters, who went to Torrance schools, along with her husband.
She grew up in the South-bay area, earned her Associates degree from El Camino and her Bachelors’ degree in Business/Finance from San Diego State University.
Carole’s career has been in the Automotive industry working for Toyota in supply chain, pricing, finance, and logistics. She currently holds the position of Senior Manager at Honda in the Automobile Logistics department where she manages a group of 50+ and serves as Automotive Industry Finished Vehicle Logistics Advisory Member and as Transit Improvement Chair on the Automotive Logistics Executive Committee working collectively with Automotive and Transportation companies to drive positive change.
She is also a strong advocate for her younger daughter of special needs and professional women advancement in the workplace.
Rebecca Hong
Rebecca Hong has lived in Torrance for the past 15 years and enjoys giving back to her community, frequently as a volunteer basketball coach for the City of Torrance Youth Girls and Boys Basketball League.
As a passionate educator for the last 25 years, Rebecca started her career as an elementary school teacher before working in higher education as a university professor and mostly recently, as an administrator for the last 10 years. She leads institutional change efforts centered on advancing inclusive learning environments through data-informed decision making. She has published articles, book chapters, and presents at national conferences on topics around assessment, organizational effectiveness, and creating human-centered workplaces.
Rebecca received a B.A. in Economics from UC San Diego, M.A. in Education from Biola University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California.
Charlene Brewer-Smith
Charlene Brewer-Smith has taught cosmetology for 16 years at El Camino College and other local community colleges. She is a tenured professor with a Master degree in Education Administration, a Bachelor in Organizational Leadership, and an Associate Degree in Cosmetology. She teaches all aspects of cosmetology and instructs students aspiring for careers in beauty including hair styling, nails, and make-up. She continues to work in the industry at a salon where she serves clients in her spare time. She currently serves as a Senator on the El Camino College Academic Senate and is the president elect. She has served on the EMTI (Equity Minded Teaching Institute) committee where she helped to develop equity classes for faculty. She is a member of the El Camino College Industry & Technology, Division Curriculum Committee. She also coordinates the El Camino Police; Engaging police and community project and has served on several faculty evaluation and hiring committees.
She is passionate about mentoring students, and fellow teachers. She enjoys helping others and creating a student-centered instruction so that students can make learning connections in their education. She strives to be a positive part of the academic journey.
She is a mother of three adults, two girls, and one boy and loves good movies, tasty food, entertaining music, a refreshing mimosa and getting her skate on. She is very blessed and excited to work in a capacity that aligns with her destiny.
