The Torrance Police Department Public Safety Dispatchers serve as the primary link between the public, and the Police and Fire personnel. Our Dispatchers are an essential component to our overall mission of serving the citizens of our community. Dispatchers operate communication systems utilizing radio, telephone and computer equipment to receive emergency and non-emergency calls requesting Police and Fire services.
They make critical decisions during urgent incidents in order to provide First Responders with real-time information to help them solve a variety of situations. Our Communications Center has a variety of positions in which all will collectively work together to help the citizens of Torrance. In addition, each Dispatcher has the skills to independently handle any incident. They provide citizens with available resources and solutions to non-emergency calls, as well as provide reassurance and life-saving direction prior to Police and Fire personnel arriving during emergency situations.
As a Public Safety Dispatcher, our Department has Tactical Dispatchers which is a collateral position. Each Tactical Dispatcher is specially trained and responsible for responding to and supporting the field operations units involved in high-risk incidents. This assignment provides our SWAT personnel and Crisis Negotiation Team with critical management capabilities and resources during high-risk situations. Each Tactical Dispatcher receives additional training in handling high-risk incidents. They are vital to the overall success of the most dangerous problems for First Responders.
Our team of Dispatchers are committed to serving others 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. They are vital in connecting the citizens to First Responders during some of the most stressful times in their lives. Our Department would not be able to fulfill our commitment to our community without our amazing team of Dispatchers.
