BOB DUNN - ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE
Assistant Chief Bob Dunn began his Law Enforcement career with the Anaheim Police Department as a Police Explorer in 1993 and was hired as an Anaheim Police Officer in 2001. As an officer, Assistant Chief Dunn served as an Explorer Advisor, Recruitment Team member, Graffiti Task Force Investigator, Community Policing Team Officer, and Training Officer until he was ultimately promoted to Sergeant in 2008.
As a Sergeant, Assistant Chief Dunn was a Patrol Supervisor and supervised Anaheim PD's Canine Unit. He also served as Anaheim PD's Public Safety Information Officer, coordinating emergency and non-emergency messaging, marketing, and media relations for the Anaheim Police Department and Anaheim Fire & Rescue.
Assistant Chief Dunn was promoted to Lieutenant in 2013. As a Lieutenant, Chief Dunn worked as a Watch Commander, the Executive Officer, and he continued his role as the Public Safety Information Officer for both police and fire services. He later served as the Gang Intervention and Suppression Section Commander, Youth Services Section Commander, District Commander, and Professional Standards Commander.
In January of 2018, Assistant Chief Dunn joined the Fullerton Police Department as a Police Captain. In his role, Assistant Chief Dunn oversaw the Support Services Division. In this role, he was responsible for all of Investigations, Community Services, Forensic Services, Fullerton's Type-1 Jail Facility, and nearly all the Department's civilian professional staff.
In August of 2018, Assistant Chief Dunn was appointed to Acting Chief of Police, and in June of 2019, Assistant Chief Dunn was appointed the 18th Chief of the Fullerton Police Department.
On September 24, 2023, Assistant Chief Bob Dunn joined the Torrance Police Department. Assistant Chief Dunn earned a Bachelor's Degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a Master's degree in Education from Boise State University. He is married to Marisela, an Anaheim Police Officer, and they reside in Southern California. His stepdaughter, Merissa, recently graduated from California Baptist University, where she played softball, and will be attending nursing school in Michigan in the fall.
