When a natural or other disaster strikes, life suddenly changes. Routines are shattered, jobs disrupted, and property destroyed. Loved ones may be injured or lives lost.

After a disaster, recovery can take months, even years, to return to a sense of normalcy.

The City of Torrance has established a system to ensure a smooth recovery process following a disaster.   

The City's plan outlines that following a disaster that City and the Community consider the following:

1. The replacement, reconstruction, removal, relocation of damaged/destroyed infrastructures/buildings.
2. The establishment of priorities for emergency repairs to facilities, buildings and infrastructures.
3. The economic recovery and community development.
4. New or amended zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, building and sanitary codes.
