The City's Internal Audit Services (IAS) division works to make Torrance better for all residents. IAS conducts audits and advisory engagements to help City operations find ways to improve.
The Audit division follows professional audit standards to help ensure quality of audit reports. Audit standards encourage Cities to publish reports so everyone can see the results of the work. Certain reports are exempt from disclosure based on security and confidentiality regulations.

Performance Audits – Primarily focusing on best practice identification, innovation, cost optimization, risk mitigation & controls testing. Examples: Inventory Controls, Police Evidence Room, Accounts Payable

Compliance Reviews – Verify compliance with contractual agreements, laws, rules and regulations. Examples: OSHA, Environmental Safety

Advisory Engagements – Consulting services that are performed at the specific request of the client. Objectives and scope are subject to agreement with the client.

Whistleblower Reporting - IAS is authorized to receive complaints from employees and members of the public who wish to report an improper governmental activity.
