Based on John Waters’ 1988 film, “Hairspray”, the story takes place in Baltimore during the 1960s when TV dance shows were all the rage.  Plump Tracy Turnblad dreams of winning a role on the TV show and uses her new fame, after winning, to integrate the show, much to the chagrin of the producers.
