Bona-fide Torrance-based, non-profit groups may submit events to be included in the Torrance citywide calendar pending approval. The City of Torrance Citywide Calendar System Administrator (Office of Cable and Community Relations) is responsible for determining which events are appropriate for posting and then approving a calendar entry. The administrator also has the capability to submit the event to other calendars so that your event may be posted on more than one calendar if appropriate. Events must occur within Torrance city limits to be considered for inclusion and submitted within the categories already identified within the calendar. Find out How To Submit.

Smoke and Mirrors - Opening Reception

Exhibition organized by Gioj De Marco and Elizabeth Withstandley.

The artists in SMOKE AND MIRRORS investigate the nature of reality; how objects, memories, ideas come into being, how they persist and how they cease to exist. The works want to make ghosts appear in the flesh and, at the same time reveal their illusionary nature. These artists are magicians
of their trade, oblique translators of both physical and virtual environments, recreating stages and props, histories and identities. By exploring the space between known and unverifiable realities, they shed light on the infinite vagueness of the anthropocentric universe.

The exhibition encompasses video, sculpture, installation and performance and presents artists from Argentina, Finland, France, Italy, Germany and the United States.

Featuring:
Gordon Winiemko, Elizabeth Withstandley, Gioj De Marco, Barry Markowitz, Dorsey Dunn, Thomas Muller, Alejandra Urresti, Josephine Wister Faure, Lewis Colburn, Clifton Childree, Heta Kuchka, Bettina Khano, and Adler Guerrier
