Bona-fide Torrance-based, non-profit groups may submit events to be included in the Torrance citywide calendar pending approval. The City of Torrance Citywide Calendar System Administrator (Office of Cable and Community Relations) is responsible for determining which events are appropriate for posting and then approving a calendar entry. The administrator also has the capability to submit the event to other calendars so that your event may be posted on more than one calendar if appropriate. Events must occur within Torrance city limits to be considered for inclusion and submitted within the categories already identified within the calendar. Find out How To Submit.

Walking Tour of Historic Old Torrance

The Torrance Historical Society will kick-off their annual Walking Tours of Historic Old Torrance on Sunday, May 26th. This free docent-led tour begins at the Torrance Historical Museum and will point-out many historic sites and landmarks of Old Torrance (founded 1912).

Guests will also learn . . .
• About the explosion that helped put Torrance on the map
• Why Irving Gill, architect of the Pacific Electric Railway El Prado Bridge and the Depot, was fired
• Where the original Police and Fire Station was located (they used to share a building, and a car!)
• Why Torrance does not have a cemetery
• What TV character "lived" on Cota

The tour will also include information regarding the world renown landscape architectural firm of Olmsted & Sons, John C., and Frederick Law, Jr. of Brookline MA, who designed the City of Torrance. Plus, attendees learn how the City and some of the streets in Downtown got their name, where the first public library originated, the original boundaries of the City, where Buffy the Vampire Slayer was filmed and more.
The tour is an easy, but brisk walk covering eight blocks. The walk is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes -- comfortable walking shoes are recommended. It's free, open to the public, requires no reservations, and is hosted on the fourth Sunday, May - October.
