Due to changes in politics and the advent of Protestantism, religious art changed radically. We begin with a comparison of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel from its Renaissance style, to the new Mannerist School of Art. Mannerism, also known as Late Renaissance, is a European art style that emerged in the later years of the Italian High Renaissance, circa 1520, lasting until the end of the 16th century in Italy, when the Baroque style began to replace it.
