In order to obtain a copy of a traffic accident report, per CVC 20012, you must be one of the following:
- The involved driver(s)
- The guardian or conservator of the involved driver(s)
- The parent or guardian of a minor driver
- The authorized representative of the driver(s)
- An injured party
- The owner of a vehicle or damaged property as a result of the collision
- Persons who may incur civil liability as a result of the collision
- Any attorney who declares under penalty of perjury that they represent any of the above
To better serve our citizens and their insurance carriers, we have partnered with LexisNexis and the majority of our traffic accident reports are now being made available for purchase online via their secure website.
Fast and Convenient! There is no need to spend the time needed to request a copy by mail, or to drop-off a request in person. For a nominal convenience fee, you may access your traffic accident report online.
Important: Please allow a minimum of fifteen days from the date of the accident to allow the report to be reviewed and approved for release by our Traffic Division, before attempting to purchase your report online. Also, note that some reports that require criminal investigation by our Traffic Bureau may be delayed and/or not available online (such as hit and run accidents or collisions resulting in a fatality). If you have any questions regarding these types of reports, please contact the Records Division at (310) 618-5529.
If you need assistance locating your report online, please contact the LexisNexis eCrash Help Desk at 1-866-215-2771.
Individuals who do not wish to pay the convenience fee can still request a copy of their traffic accident report by mail, or by dropping off a copy of the Request for Release of Police Records in our lobby. The fee for a copy of a traffic collision report is $18.00.
