Welcome to our web based Crime Pin Map. This map was designed to provide information for 12 specific incidents (crimes) reported throughout the City. This Crime Pin Map does not depict all crimes. For these 12 selected crimes (refer to legend in the map), you can use the Pin Map to view an actual "description" of the crime to get more detailed information of what occurred.
The most recent information posted to the Crime Pin Map is a minimum of four days old. This is to give time for preliminary investigations and to ensure the crime is coded properly. The map only retains the last 45 days of reported incidents due to server storage space. For crimes older than 45 days, please refer to the Weekly Crime Logs listed below and select by date desired.
If you have any questions, need assistance or would like information on crimes not illustrated on the Pin Map, please contact our Community Affairs Division at: CommunityAffairs@TorranceCA.gov

Additional Resources:
The National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) was instituted by the FBI in effort to improve the quality of data local agencies collect on crime. It is designed to provide greater detail on the context of the crime occurring in the community. NIBRS provides greater specificity in reporting offenses, collects more detailed information, helps give context to specific crime problems, and provides greater analytic flexibility.
The FBI Crime Data Explorer (CDE) aims to provide transparency, create easier access, and expand awareness of criminal, and noncriminal, law enforcement data sharing; improve accountability for law enforcement; and provide a foundation to help shape public policy with the result of a safer nation. Use the CDE to discover available data through visualizations, download data in .csv format, and other large data files.

CRIME STATISTICS
As of January 1, 2021, the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program retired the summary reporting system and required all law enforcement agencies in the country to use the same method of obtaining statistics. Transitioning to NIBRS has enabled TPD to give context to specific public safety problems. With this change, officers are providing the community with in-depth information about victimization and offending.
