The Torrance Fire Department is a nationally recognized ISO Class 1 and Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) accredited premier all-risk public safety organization.  Our primary mission is to protect, serve and improve the quality of life for the entire community of Torrance.  We achieve this through strong partnerships in all areas within the City of Torrance.

Fire resources are strategically located across the City to ensure we are meeting the community’s expectations.  Our emergency response resources include: 1 Platoon Commander, 7 Engine Companies, 2 Truck Companies, 5 Paramedic Rescue Ambulances, 6 BLS Ambulances, 1 Bariatric Ambulance, 1 Ambulance Field Training Operator unit, 1 Hazardous Materials Unit, and 1 Urban Search & Rescue Unit.

Fire Chief David A. Dumais

Chief Dumais, a Torrance native and Torrance High graduate, earned degrees from CSU Dominguez Hills and El Camino College. He began as an LAFD paramedic, joined Torrance Fire in 1987, and rose through ranks to Fire Chief in 2022. He led training, emergency programs, refinery safety, and community risk reduction, earning recognition for safety leadership.

On behalf of the men and women of the City of Torrance Fire Department, we welcome you to our website, where I hope you will find the information provided helpful and practical to you. My name is David Dumais, and I am the Fire Chief for the City of Torrance. I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve the City of Torrance as your Fire Chief. 

Having grown up in Torrance and a product of the Torrance Unified School District, I am keenly aware of the expectations and trust that our community holds our public service agencies accountable. The Fire Department and Police Department; stand together and are ready to maintain safety and security at the highest level possible with integrity and pride.

The City of Torrance has equipped the Fire Department with the resources needed to provide essential services for life safety, property conservation, and environmental protection. Our dedicated members will respond efficiently and effectively to emergencies and work hard to bring each situation back to normalcy.

Torrance Fire Department is a premier fire service agency in the State and in the Country, holding a Class 1 rating issued by the Insurance Service Office (ISO) since 1995. In 2019, our Fire Department became an accredited agency through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). The Torrance Fire Department is one of five (5) agencies in California to achieve CPSE Accreditation while having a Class 1 ISO rating and one of 127 agencies to hold both distinctions in the United States.

We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service to the Torrance community by maintaining a forward-leaning posture for any issue we might encounter. Our department is an all-hazard, all-risk fire service agency, able to respond to, manage, and bring to a safe result and just about any incident that may occur in our City. Hazardous Materials response and Administration, Technical Rescue response, Emergency Medical response, Fire Protection Engineering and Code Enforcement, as well as fighting fires and providing safety education to the community and schools, are just a few ways we strive to keep Torrance safe.

My goal for our community is to be a prepared community. I am committed to providing education and training services to our community for readiness and ability to protect during catastrophes.

I am excited about the future of our organization. Torrance is a great community to live, work, and play. Your Torrance Fire Department is here when you need our services, and rest assured, we will respond quickly, efficiently, and effectively to serve your needs.
