Water Conservation (Easy Ways to Save Water)

Click here  to take the "20 Gallon Challenge" and find out how easy it is to save 20 gallons of water per day!

Water your lawn only when it needs it. Step on your grass. If it springs back when you lift your foot, it doesn't need water. So set your sprinklers for more days between watering. In times of drought, water with a hose.

750-1500 gallons a month.

Fix leaky faucets and plumbing joints.

20 gallons a day.

Don't run the hose while washing your car. Use a bucket of water and a quick hose rinse at the end.

150 gallons each time. 1,200 gallons a month for two-car family.

Install water-saving shower heads or flow restrictors.

500-800 gallons a month.

Run only full loads in the washing machine and dish washer.

300-800 gallons a month.

Shorten your showers.

700 gallons a month for one-or two-minute reduction.

Use a broom instead of hose to clean driveways and sidewalks.

150 gallons or more each time. At once a week, that's more than 600 gallons a month.

Don't use your toilet as an ashtray or waste basket.

400-600 gallons a month.

Capture tap water. While you wait for hot water to come down the pipes, catch the flow in a watering can to use later on house plants or your garden.

200-300 gallons a month.

Don't water sidewalks, driveway or gutter. Adjust your sprinklers so that water lands on your lawn or garden where it belongs - and only there.

500 gallons a month.
